Sony TC-250 reel-to-reel

Mid-60s recording tape deck

Between 1965 and 1968, Sony made the now classic TC-250, a reel-to-reel quarter-track tape deck that uses two heads. It can be used vertically or horizontally, and features an all-idler, beltless tape drive mechanism. Switches seamlessly between 3 ¾ and 7 ½ tape speed. Controls are hidden discreetly beneath the sliding panel, just below the two VU metres. Includes auto-shutoff, 7” reel capacity, headphone jack, pause control, and integrated record/playback connector. Great for field work or experimentation with reel-to-reel tape recording.
