Listening Station
Turntables, cassette decks, CD players, plus an amplifier that you can hook up to just about anything… Pull on a pair of headphones or play your audio through professional Neumann speakers in our AMPLab space dedicated to the practice of listening. The lab offers a wide range of setups and connectivity equipment so you can playback your project or tune in to music and more with superior sound accuracy. The listening station also features a small collection of spoken recordings from different periods and labels including Caedmon and Spoken Arts.
Digitization Station
Digitize sound using a wide range of audio media technologies that play distinct formats, including acoustic and electronic records, reel-to-reel, eight-track, audio cassette and microcassette tapes, magnetic recording wire, MiniDiscs, wax cylinders, and more. The digitization station allows a wide range of media to output sound through state-of-the-art analog/digital converters and other equipment to enhance, balance, and capture the signal as needed.
Digital Projects
Students and researchers working on digital projects can make full use of the AMPLab’s digital software and hardware resources. Computer tables featuring MacBooks, 27” Apple screens, amplifiers, and multiple machine setups and connections are available for AV annotation, editing, conversion, analysis, and more.
Podcast Studio
Located down the hall from the AMPLab, behind the Centre for Expanded Poetics (CEP), the fully equipped and soundproofed podcast studio offers a space for recording interviews, podcasts, performances, and other audio work. Multiple microphones/headphones are available, with a recording panel and software to capture and work with sound. Note that this space must be booked for use at least a week in advance.
